School News
• School Liturgies - Our school liturgies will be on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30am. Please feel free to join us.
• OLG Spirit Day - Our first OLG Spirit Day this school year will be Thursday, August 22nd. Students may wear an OLG shirt, t-shirt, or sports jersey with uniform shorts, pants, or plaids.
• Menu Change - Tuesday, August 20th’s lunch entree will be Pizza-Chicken Quesadilla instead of Burrito.
• After Dismissal Reminders - All cars will enter at the south entrance. Please leave the line next to the east sidewalk open until 2:50 for PreK pick-up. Thank you for your cooperation.
• Absences – Parents are reminded to call the school office (317-881-1300) by 8:15am if a student will not be in school or will be late. A written note to the teacher explaining the absence is required when the student returns to school. Thank you.
• Yearbooks - There are a few 2023-24 yearbooks left for $10 each. If you would like one, please contact the school office.
• Picture Day - Students who were absent on Picture Day will have their pictures taken on Picture Retake Day Wednesday, October 16th. 3 year olds will have their pictures taken then also.
• Follow OLG School on Facebook - We have a strong presence on our FB page. Please check out @olgeagles1 on FB. You can message OLG School through this page, see great photos, stay current on happenings, and much more!
• OLG Communication - OLG School relies on email as our primary way of communication. We are aware that not everyone checks email on a regular basis. Please, please - check your email. If you haven’t received notification from us at all this school year, then check your Spam folder. The email addresses were verified at Open House, and everyone’s information is as correct as possible within our PowerSchool system. That information feeds our School Messenger system that sends the large group emails. If ever you have a change of phone number, email address, street address, or contact information, then contact Mrs. Begley in the school office at office@ol-g.org or 317-881-1300.
• Names, Names, Names! Please put your student’s name on all items - lunch box, coat, jacket, etc. Lost and Found always ends up with a large collection of unidentified items.
• Medications at School – Per Archdiocesan policy, Catholic schools are not permitted to dispense any kind of medication – including cough drops, Tylenol and ibuprofen – to students unless the medication has been brought from home in an original container with written permission from the parent for a specific time period only. The medication is to stay in the school office. Our Lady of the Greenwood School is still permitted to take temperatures, clean wounds and apply band-aids, and administer first aid.
• OLG complies with AHERA - We are required to notify our school community that Our Lady of the Greenwood School continues to be in compliance with all aspects of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Act.
• Chess Club - We are attempting to start our own Chess Team this year. We need players to register now (www.cyoarchindy.org) to know if we have enough interest. Middle school meets Thursdays in Mr Shadiows room (starting tomorrow!), 3-4pm. 2nd-5th grade meets in Mrs Langenderfers room on Mondays (starting 8/26/24) from 3-4pm. Email Carrie Mahin at mahinzzz@gmail.com if questions!
• Debate Club - New!!! We are limiting it to 5th graders this quarter to see how it goes. Watch their folders, we will be sending home a permission slip / flyer this week. We will meet Wednesdays from 3-4pm at OLG, starting next week 08/21/24.
• 8th Graders - An 8th grade privilege is being on the Planning Committee for the annual Color Walk. We will meet on Mondays, starting 8/26/24. Parents of 8th graders are welcome to attend; however, everything is decided by the students! It's an awesome opportunity for them to learn about clubs, organizing activities and personnel, and finding their voice! Watch for a flyer / permission slip to come home this week!
